I recently read a quote about the Shaker philosophy of design: "The Shakers were not using simplicity just for simplicity's sake. It was a way of expressing, a way of worshipping. A chair is beautiful because it functions well, and so you pare away all of the decorative items and get back to the simplicity." Now I recognize that the Shakers probably never wore rings for this very reason...but if they had, I like to think that this one would have met with their approval.
